Mused: Snowflakes Snowflakes!

Here at my office, we have been in a bit of a decorating mood.  Last year we barely did anything.  This year, we decided to have a crafting lunch and make snowflakes.  Then they were put up around the office.  Then I went home and the kiddo had made snowflakes at school.  Then it snowed a bit.  We made some more snowflakes later in the week as well.

And today, as I'm getting ready to post this, I hear that we are supposed to get an inch of snow this weekend...

...Maybe if I talk about warm weather, cute single guys, and cash, that will fall in my lap as well...

Ah well, it's worth a shot.

Muse: What's that white stuff in the air?

There was snow on the ground this week.  Last year was a hard one.  We had piles and piles of snow and blizzards and ice and horribleness.  This year, we didn't see snow until the last day of November.  It didn't stick, but it stuck for awhile on Thursday before melting. 

Luckily, here in the middle of Iowa, we have been graced with only a dusting of snow so far.  It's winter, so give it awhile.  But the first soft snowfall is always inspiring.  The kiddo is ready to break out the snow boots and my office is decorated with the paper variety.  (Shh, don't tell anyone, but we hung up snowflakes the day before it snowed.  I think it's our fault.)

It finally feels like the holidays!

Create: It's Snowing!

This year for xmas, I wanted everything on my tree to be handmade.  I mostly succeeded but it wasn't exactly what I wanted since I ran out of time.  I was going to take a class on crocheted snowflakes but didn't get around to it.  Now I can start prepping for next year already!

Today has been a surprise so I didn't have time to finish this properly with starch and blocking, but I think it turned out really well.  It was a quick crochet, maybe twenty minutes.  The pattern is called Mini Snowflake, designed by Julie A. Bolduc.

I used thin yarn instead of thread and a C hook, so this is bigger than the designer intended.  But it did it's purpose in showing me that this kind of design isn't as difficult as the mind makes it seem.  I am no longer intimidated by doilies! (maybe...)  I'm definitely going to be making a number of these for xmas.

Write: What's the weather like?

Exercise:  Write a paragraph after looking out your window.  Maybe it is snowing.  Maybe it is raining.  Maybe the sun is shining brightly.  Maybe it's the middle of the night.  Find the Muse living in the weather outside and see what She says to you.
